tHERAPY was made as part of The 2010 DC 48 Hour Film Project, April 30-May 2, by Cavegirl Productions. The 48HFP is an annual international, multi-city competition where filmmakers are given two days to write, shoot, soundtrack, and edit a four to seven minute film. Award winning films from many of the years of the 48HFP can be found at 48.tv.
At 7pm Friday evening of the 48HFP competition weekend, filmmakers attend a kickoff meeting where they pull their team's required genre out of a hat. Every city is also assigned a character, prop, and line of dialogue that must appear in each team's film. The films must be turned in by 7:30pm on Sunday evening to be eligible for awards.
Our required elements for this year were:
- Genre: Time Travel or Doppleganger
- Character: Marco or Muffin Gabbowitz, a person who works with animals
- Prop: A horn (any kind)
- Line of Dialogue: "Do you think you can do that again?"
tHERAPY was filmed in Lorton, VA. Running time: 6:56.
tHERAPY had its first screening at 9:30pm on May 7th, 2010 at the AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring, MD. The AFI Silver is a state-of-the-art moving image exhibition, education and cultural center. Anchored by the restoration of noted architect John Eberson's historic 1938 Silver Theatre, it also features 32,000 square feet of new construction housing two stadium theatres, office and meeting space, and reception and exhibit areas.
Previous Projects
Cavegirl Productions made the thriller MOTIVATION for the 2009 DC 48HFP. The entire film was shot in one room and only two speaking actors. MOTIVATION's tagline was the required line of dialogue for that year, "We're hoping things we'll change."
For the 2008 DC 48HFP we made the fable film FICKLE FORTUNE. The cast of characters included the Goddess of Fortune, and one of our locations was the Piratz Tavern in Silver Spring, MD. The films' logline was "Be careful what you wish for."
For the 2007 DC 48HFP, we made the buddy film and blatant Lord of the Rings parody, FOURGE. The film prominently featured an Indonesian Gamelan, and the official logline for the movie was "One gong to rule them all."
For the DC 2006 48HFP, the team created the historical fiction/period piece and reality show parody The Old World. The Old World's tagline was: "What happens when eight historical characters, plucked from the fabric of time, are forced to live together on an RV?"
For the DC 2005 48HFP, Cavegirl Productions participated in association with Defektiv Films. Their horror entry, HATCH, filmed on a 120-ft former coastal patrol boat, was selected for the "Best of the 48HFP" (top 15 films), and was also awarded Best Locations.
In October 2004, they participated in 48HFPs sister competition, the National Film Challenge. Their entry, FELT: Tearing the Fabric of America, made the top ten out of 151 entries, and was awarded Best Mockumentary.
Cavegirl and Defektiv's first film endeavour was APERTURE, a sci-fi short made for the 2004 DC 48HFP.
